Wondering what to wear for engagement photos? I feel you, sister! Many brides-to-be come to me with this question and my answer is always “Where something that makes you feel like a million bucks!” However, it’s sometimes easier said than done, right? To help you out, I put together some of the engagement photos that my team took recently to show you some great examples of engagement photo outfits. This is the second blog post in the series, make sure you check out part 1 here.
Ready? Here are our top 4 ideas of what to wear for engagement photos by season:
Spring
What says Spring engagement photos more than a pretty, pastel dress? With everything awakening in the springtime and trees starting to bloom, I find that flowing, light dresses for her and muted pastel colours for him look best in photos. Bonus points: if you colour coordinate your outfits so they are in the same palette for a more polished and cohesive look.
Outfit ideas:
Maxi dress + neutral makeup for her;
Loose dress shirt + jeans for him
Summer
Accessorize! Summer is the time to experiment with new styles, try on the season’s trends and be adventurous with your outfits. Complete your look with a statement accessory like a wide-brim hat and a pair of cool shoes. Your partner can totally rock a more layered look and wear light summer trousers for a relaxed feel. I also love seeing loafers on guys, so bring them on!
Outfit ideas:
Summer top + trendy jeans + cool accessory for her;
Relaxed trousers + a basic white t-shirt for him
Fall
I love seeing layers and bold colour combinations in Fall! If you’re wondering what to wear for engagement photos in Autumn, here are a few pointers: layers, layers, layers! Combining a few different textures, like leather and denim adds interesting visual elements to your photos. While graphic colours help your photos pop. Top your outfit with a timeless accessory and colour coordinate with your partner in crime to achieve a flawless power couple look.
Outfit ideas:
Leather skirt + statement blouse + high heels for her;
80’s denim jacket + V-neck t-shirt + suede boots for him.
Winter
Choose earthy tones for your winter engagement photos. Any shades of mustard yellow, muted green and elegant beige look perfect together. With the days becoming shorter and colder, I love it when my couples opt for cozy and timeless coats and are not afraid to add colour into their winter looks, whether it’s the mustard coloured jeans or a beautiful patterned scarf.
Outfit ideas:
Classic beige coat + vintage scarf for her;
Knit sweater + dress shirt for him
In addition to the outfit tips above, I also ask my couples to think of their engagement photo location and make sure that their outfits look organic within their chosen setting. I’d like you to think about how your clothes will look against your photo location. If your shoot location is full of colourful patterns, like a graffiti alley or an amusement park, look for neutral outfits that won’t compete with your surroundings. On the other hand, if your engagement photo location is a sandy beach with neutral colours a pop of colour will give a welcome punch to your photos.
That’s it! I hope you found this blog post useful. As always, feel free to reach out to your photographer with any questions and ideas you have regarding your pre-wedding pictures!
